Beautiful heavy clouds shifting in different blues and greys start gathering on the sky one afternoon in July. It is the hottest July in 136 years and there seems to be no escape from it. A thunder is murmuring in the background and soon the first cool raindrops drop down from the sky. This is relief. I find myself on the rooftop watching the play of light and clouds, enjoying the purifying, silent rain and discovering the emptiness in a space over the Eternal City.

Photography has been one of Martina’s first ways of expressing creativity (in adult life) and it is one of the most important tools when she searches for inspiration and understanding, observing her surroundings and find things that attract her attention. Her style has been expressed as delicate, realistic and minimalist, and she likes to use natural light to create a specific calmness in her photos. In this series Martina found herself on the rooftop of her former home in Rome, Italy in 2015.
