Together with an international group of creatives, Martina participated in the Floating Mountains workshop organised by Paesaggi Migranti in Pennabilli, a small town up on two hills in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. The name of the workshop comes from the Marecchia Valley, which is an ever-changing and moving landscape due to moving rocks.

Martina’s team, under the name Public Nature, focused on finding and revealing the qualities of the park Parco Begni, and its possible role in the town of Pennabilli situated next to it. The team spent some days exploring and mapping the park and its surroundings, interviewing locals and visualising future use for it with the idea of interaction and inspiration from the agricultural tradition and the floating mountains. The final concept built on the idea of curating the park, marking out the different areas for specific use, but most of all giving a hand to the locals to acclaim the park for themselves. This the Public Nature team did by creating the performance group 'In Bianchini' (meaning dressed in white) which did some actions/performances in the park. They also designed a logo for Parco Begni and a map marking out all the important areas, trees and interventions in connection to Pennabilli.

The actions/performances done: - a stencil sign of the Parco Begni logo on the street next to the main entrance

  • marking a new entrance following an undiscovered path to the park

  • a discovery path in the forest, marked with poles

  • marking out edible trees and trees from the earlier herbarium

  • painting paths that lead to new routes inside the park

  • marking a playground next to the tennis and football field

  • marking out, painting and building simple furniture for social spaces

  • marking out the artistic interventions made by the other workshop teams
